Friends

We have been working and praying extra hard over the past few months to help Ella and Caleb learn to play well together and help/work together on things. Before Caleb could get his shoes on himself earlier this summer, we got to a point where Ella would help him get them on and he would let her. Although, he still looks a little weary about it in the picture, we were pretty excited about capturing it.
I sent Ella into Caleb's room one morning when he woke up. When I came in they were playing and snuggling together in his crib. Slowly but surely, we are really seeing changes in their behavior toward one another and they are truly learning to be good friends.

Dancing & Gym

In June, Ella finished up her Little Gym dance and gymnastics class. She has been going to this particular class since January. She has really enjoyed it. They had a show for parents on the last day of class where Ella did a dance recital and showed us all she learned in the gym. There were only two other girls in her class, and one was on vacation the last day and the other girl refused to dance. So, Ella got up and did the routine on her own. She was very brave. We don't have pictures of her dancing, only a video, but we have a few pictures of her doing gymnastics.

Preschool Co-op

In June I taught Ella's pre-school co-op again. This time it was at our house since the Smith's were out of town that week. I decided to do "Colors of Creation", partially to use some things I already had around here and kids love talking about when God created the world. Here are a few things we did.

I have some creation magnets that I passed out between the kids. We read the creation story out of Ella's bible and the kids had to come up when they heard their creation item described and put it up on the board. We watched a short creation segment from a DVD that was created to go along with her Bible. They wanted to watch it over and over again.... These DVDs are great, by the way. We went over the verse Gen 1:1, talked about colors from His creation and sang "God Made Me", which I already had on a CD.Our craft started out with reading "Mouse Paint" which talks about mixing colors. So then we mixed colors with food coloring and little droppers and learned how to make orange, green and purple. The droppers were a little challenging for the kids, but it was good practice for fine motor skills. Walgreens pharmacy gave me free droppers. We then mixed food coloring and shaving cream and went outside and painted.
Our snack was blue cream cheese/powdered sugar mixture on a graham cracker with multi-colored goldfish. Supposed to look like fish in the ocean.
During storytime we read "Tiny, Tiny Mouse" (another color book) and played a game with cards and stickers, mainly for number identification and counting. During center-time, the most memorable activity was this clothespin matching game. I printed out little creation pictures I got from a website, big and little ones, and glued them to the side of a box and then to a clothespin. It was a great matching activity and something again for fine motor skills.

It was a fun, yet crazy morning. I hope the kids learned something! If any of you are interested in websites to get preschool ideas, I like Hubbards Cupboard. It has a whole Christian-based curriculum on there from 2's to kindergarten age and tons of free stuff.

The Garden

The garden has been a lot of fun this year. It is our first one, so it is definitely a learning experience. But, it has turned out better than we would have thought. For all you garden lovers, here are some pictures of our stuff.

We had wonderful sugar snap peas that the kids thought were delicious to eat straight out of the garden. They are all dead now...it got too hot for them.
Our carrots have done great. Ella enjoys pulling them from the garden. This picture is from about a month ago. They are much bigger now.
We have about 4 jalepeno peppers ready to be picked. Looking forward to using them in our salsa.
We also have onions, bell peppers, squash and tomatoes. Onions are not ready and the tomatoes are not ripe yet. I am hoping to get to the tomatoes before bugs or something else gets them. Thanks Benefields for the tomato plants. Will share when they are ripe. The squash has been too small up until now, but this yellow one looks great and will soon be picked!

Our summer so far

Looking back through some recent pictures, I realized we are a little behind on posting some of the things we have been doing over the summer and have therefore missed posting some fun pictures of the kids. We'll do a few posts to let you know what has been going on.

We visited the strawberry farm just towards the end of strawberry picking season in May.

Here are a few others that we liked after that.

The Three Stooges

Check out this crazy video of Jeremy, my brother and brother-in-law at the lake over the 4th of July.
